New to the Indie Animation Mixtape: April 19, 2022
Two vastly different music videos, one using machine learning to create hyper-detailed close-ups of currency, the other painted in broad, blocky and vibrant strokes; plus two films from artists we've spotlighted in our Monday Shorts series, returning with even more impressive iterations of styles we already loved.
We've added four more films to our Indie Animation Mixtape on Vimeo this week, and each of them have blown us away in different ways. Two vastly different music videos, one using machine learning to create hyper-detailed close-ups of currency, the other painted in broad, blocky and vibrant strokes; plus two films from artists we've spotlighted in our Monday Shorts series, returning with even more impressive iterations of styles we already loved.
There are well over 700 other shorts on the Mixtape, and we highly encourage you to browse through the archives. Just a quick word of warning, though — the films in the mixtape are intended for adult audience, and many deal with sensitive subjects and NSFW content. Viewer discretion is advised.
MONEY IS THE ONE TRUE GOD
Lachlan Turczan
6:57 | 2021

FLOW
Hideki Inaba

Hideki Inaba follows up 2019's hypnotic music video, Tape, with another piece contemplating the multilayered flow of reality. As intricate as ever, it's a kaleidoscopic view of nature's constant state of change.
THE EMPTY
Jeong Dahee
9:16 | 2016
A month after we shared her 2014 debut film, Man on the Chair, animator Jeong Dahee has finally released her brilliant 2016 follow-up online. The Empty is immaculately composed, a gentle, emotionally rich look at how human presence lingers in physical space.
BENEATH THE AIR
Jesi Jordan
4:26 | 2018
Reaching back to 2018, we've added Jesi Jordan's hand-painted music video for Canadian psych-pop group Absolutely Free and their track "Beneath the Air". Bold colours, thick painted lines, and constant movement make for a playfully psychedelic experience that suits the song's soaring energy.
