Arts Opportunities: February 25, 2022
Media arts awards, emerging artist scholarships, artist talks and community check-ins make up this week's arts opportunities for Calgary artists
• Emerging Alberta artists: If you're 25 or younger, you can apply for a scholarship from the AFA to pursue career training. Details on the AFA website, deadline March 1, 2022
• Virtual community space After-Hours Animation is hosting a conversation with experimental animator (and QAS alum) Amy Lockhart on Tuesday, March 1, with a focus on limited animation techniques with digital and handmade puppets. Register to get the Zoom link
• Nominations are open for the Alberta Media Arts Alliance Society's Spirit of Helen awards, a $2,000 prize for an artist, cultural worker or advocate who has made major contributions to Alberta’s media arts community. Nominate someone by March 15th
• This one isn't specifically arts-related, but the deadline for nominating someone for Canada's Volunteer Awards is coming up on March 4. Know someone who's made their community a better place? Go here to nominate them
• Lastly, the Canada Council for the Arts' annual public meeting is coming up on March 30, where they'll be talking about the challenges of the past few years for artists, and where to go from here. If you have questions for them, they're taking them in advance through March 23
