DELTA SPACE MISSION

Nov 16, 11 pm at the Globe Cinema

Romania’s first animated feature, Delta Space Mission, is truly an 80s energetic trip. Tantalizing psychedelic rotoscoped loops over top Richard M Power’s-like sci-fi painted environments, all fuzed together with a multi-layered analog synth score that would make even Calgary’s own TONTO beep with envy. Celebrating its 40th anniversary, Deaf Crocodiles did a beautiful 4K restoration print of this film highlighting this amazing feat of animation history. This film is like a crazy quilt-like adventure that invites its audience to space out as its overwhelming charm washes over you.

A self-learning supercomputer fixates on an intergalactic reporter, Alma, and spawns Stone Monsters, Water Beings, and Robots intent upon abducting her. Stranded on a hostile planet Alma is protected by her alien dog Tin whose appetite for metal plays a vital role before the climactic confrontation between human and AI.

LANTERN BLADE

Nov 16, 7pm at the Globe Cinema

A mini-series by the renowned Chinese animation studio Nice Boat, Lantern Blade is adapted from the mange of the same name as it merges martial-arts adventure and Lovecraftian horror. With captivating fight scenes and a worldview spanning decades, the series carefully selects the most impressive moments from the original comic book, reorganizing them to create a powerful clash between truth and falsehood, kindness and evil - Xige Yi

'Lantern Blade is what you get if John Carpenter and Yuen Woo-pin sat Phil Tippit down and said, "we've got this crazy idea for a story and we need you to animate it" and Phil Tippit replies, "You had me at 'we've'". - Andrew Mack Screenanarchy

The voice cast of Jack Corbett, Julio Torres, Sarah Sherman, Joe Pera, Cole Escola and Elsie Fisher is a perfect collection of weirdo comedic flair, adding to the charmingly strange vibe.

“Bizarre, hilarious, and boasting refreshingly distinct animation, Boys Go to Jupiter is a wonderfully absurd experience.” -Mashable“If Stand by Me, ET, and The LEGO Movie had a baby it would be Julian Glander’s Boys Go to Jupiter (and that’s a good thing)”-Popverse
