Weekly Link Roundup: October 1, 2021
A/R gets a boost, Dozens of North gets a release date, and EMMEDIA is hiring a new Artistic Director
Once again, four stories caught our eye this week:
- Anime pioneer Eiichi Yamamoto, director of the cult cinema classic Belladonna of Sadness, has passed away at age 80
- After voting to unionize last October, Titmouse Vancouver's workers have ratified a four-year union agreement
- Augmented reality animation is getting a major profile boost with Fox's new singing competition, Alter Ego. It may look a bit gimmicky, but we're always excited to see animation expand into new contexts
- The New Chitose Airport Animation Festival (which, yes, takes place in an airport) will host the world premiere of Koji Yamamura's highly anticipated Dozens of Norths
Plus, some interesting arts opportunities in Calgary and beyond:
- Just a reminder that the deadline to apply to the NFB's Hothouse 13 paid animation apprenticeship is this coming Monday
- Calgary media artists — EMMEDIA is hiring an Artistic Director to spearhead and champion the organization's artistic vision. Apply by October 31!
- Know anyone who you think should be on a public art jury or arts funding jury? CADA is looking for assessors
- Speaking of CADA, they're looking to support small, grassroots projects through their Community-Run Public Art Microgrant program — applications are due October 18
