Along with the Lockdown films, we're celebrating the prolific work of QAS member Tank Standing Buffalo. One of our long-time members is making the move to California to pursue opportunities in his art and animation career. Tank’s story truly exemplifies the QAS dream. A member since 2015, he will tell you how one day he decided to pop into the QAS doors and decided to take a risk by signing up for the Animation Fundamentals course. Then he applied to the Chris J Melynchuk Memorial Scholarship and Residency where he created a short animated music video titled Still under the mentorship of Brian Batista. Tank went on to take every course that QAS offered as he honed his skills of 2D animation and storytelling. In between making animations as part of the Blackfoot Language project, artful music videos, and various projects in collaboration with the Calgary Animated Objects Society, Tank always found time to meet the challenge that is being a participant in the QAS annual Animation Lockdown. From 2018 to 2022 Tank participated in the Animation Lockdown where he created films that honed his signature storytelling skills through genres of horror and kaiju monsters. Among his many other projects, last year Tank worked on a HBO Max series Only You: An Animated Shorts Collection where he worked with Xstine Cook, producer Amanda Miller, composers Cara Adu-Darko and Brandon Smith, as well as actors Corey Feldman and Tristan Risk.

This year, we want to give celebrate Tank by screening a retrospective of his impressive body of work, as well as the films created during the QAS Lockdown. The Lockdown screening is a true community event, celebrating our members, their artistry and the craft of animation, and this year, to spotlight the amazing work from Tank, and his contributions to the animation community.
