Job description:
Call for Animators - ROLL FOR INITIATIVE
Development Workshop: Writer / director Kunji Ikeda will be holding a one-week workshop to advance a new creative work for young audiences with the generous support of Quest Theatre and Cloudsway Dance Theatre. The new work Roll For Initiative aims to use the fantasy character mechanics of Dungeons and Dragons to contextualize racially based stereotypes and the harmful impact they can bring to our friends, community, and adventuring party-members.
Deliverables: We are looking for an animator to generate images for fantastical effects such as:
- An automated dice roll for 1-20 (like the animated dice roll on DND Beyond)
- 5 background projections with subtle animations (wind moving some trees)
- an explosion of fire (for spells like fireball)
- an explosion of vines (for a spell like grasping vines)
- 3 other general flashes of magic and mystic (ex. levelling up)
- the pathway of a friendly skeleton bird
- an evil shadowy face for the Big Bad
Ideal candidates would program content into QLab
We anticipate a further development phase with additional funding in the future
Please note: real life D&D experience is not required to be considered for these positions.
Workshop Timing: Monday Dec 13 - Saturday Dec 18 2021
All rehearsals will take place at Quest Theatre’s rehearsal hall at cSPACE (1721 - 29 Ave SW)
Animator would not need to be at all rehearsals, and could connect digitally. We will not need all deliverables by the end of the in-person workshop, we are hoping to have this be a generative period and would like to incorporate some of the video design in this time!
Compensation: $1750
Artists must show proof of vaccination to participate in-person at this workshop. Quest and Cloudsway have a responsibility to create work spaces where people are comfortable in a creation process, and can be themselves in every capacity. With this in mind, we encourage submissions from those who identify as Indigenous, Black, or POC as well as 2SLGBTQIA+, Disabled/People with Disabilities and/or Neuro-Divergent people.
