JOB CALL: Voice Actors for Filipino Short Film
Calgary Animated Objects Society is looking for an Animator & Poster Artist for a Canada Summer Jobs position!
About the Project
Created by Christine Llamas and Vanessa Webster, “Roots” is about three close friends: Marsiol, an upbeat jokester; John, a quick tempered loose cannon; and Richel, a lonely homebody. Together they learn to grapple with the fleeting connection to their culture and what it truly means to be “Filipino enough”.
Job Description:
We are seeking three voice actors to fill the roles of our main characters: Marisol, John and Richel.
Character Descriptions:
Marisol is an optimistic 26 year old goofball learning to connect to her culture through her community. Born in Calgary and seeking out her roots to her Filipino culture, she finds comfort in John and Richel, becoming the glue of their friend group.
John is a 28 year old call center employee who’s been searching for some peace and quiet since he left the calm of the Filipino countryside. Now trapped in a honking, hollering and cramped world, he’s grown quite a temper. Always grumpy and always yelling, John is a bit of a loose cannon learning to adjust to his new Canadian life.
Richel is a 27 year old aspiring artist turned temp agent who immigrated to Canada to create a better life for herself. To her dismay her dreams seem to drift farther and farther out of her reach. Richel now navigates this new world in a deep depression trying desperately to stay connected to who she was, but her past self begins to feel like a memory she’ll never know again.
