Artist Bio

Morgan Whalan is an animator, illustrator, and designer based in Calgary, Alberta. A graduate of the Alberta University of the Arts with a degree in Visual Communication and a minor in Animation, Morgan also holds a diploma in Visual and Creative Arts from Sheridan College. As an emerging artist, she is known for creating bold, eye-catching graphics and illustrations that challenge conventional narratives. Drawing from her personal experiences, Morgan is dedicated to authentically representing sex workers and queer art in Alberta, using her unique artistic voice to empower and inspire.

Project Summary

“Cat Cabaret” will be a 3 - 6-minute narrative short film exploring rotoscoping techniques and 2D animation. Cat Cabaret is a thrilling story following three strippers and their journey to reclaim their beloved but fading strip club, blending humour, suspense, and empowerment in a story of redemption and inner strength.

Cat Cabaret was born out of my personal experiences that began with my involvement in this industry, working alongside and getting to know the incredible women who take center stage in this world. Immersed in this realm, I discovered that the strippers I encountered were some of the most powerful, intelligent, and resilient individuals I had ever met. They displayed strength and charisma in the face of adversity, navigating a complex industry with grace and determination. Cat Cabaret focuses on the strengths of strippers and showcases these women as the heroes they are.
