How QAS can Support your Productions

Not sure where to start when you want to make a film? See how Quickdraw helps those who want to make their own independent animations.

Quickdraw supports multiple productions and projects every year, and we are often asked how we can help support individuals in producing their own animated films. Here are some recommended steps that Quickdraw suggests for you to successfully acquire and deliver on grants for films.

NOTE: At the end of the day, this is YOUR film and YOUR production. These steps are certainly not required, but are suggested so that your expectations and Quickdraw’s expectations are established.

Attend our Grant Writing Workshop

We run a grant-writing workshop twice a year before the major grant deadlines to go over the process of writing, developing and submitting a grant application. Not only is this a good opportunity to learn how the wheels turn in the grant-writing world, but even if you’re half-way through an application, it’s an opportunity to get a pair of eyes on your application so that we can provide advice to improve and refine it.

Refer to our Rental Rates for Equipment and Studios

Document with rates: (Link). Also meet with our Production Director (production@quickdrawanimation.ca) to ensure that studio space will be available, and to help with budgeting needs in your grant application.

Meet with QAS Staff

Request a meeting with QAS Staff to understand how QAS will support your project.

This can relate to special accommodations, class postings/schedules, rental requirements and technical hours that would be needed as a result. It can also paint a better picture of if Quickdraw has the resources that you require for your project.

Request Support Letter

Support Letter must be requested at least 2 weeks before grant deadline

Quickdraw is more than happy to also review and edit your grant application, just ensure that you send it to us 2 weeks - 1 month in advance of the deadline so we have enough time to look it over and read it through properly.

Active Grant Protocols

For those who have received funding. Quickdraw Recommends that you follow these protocols to help with your grant:

Join the Production Club

Production Club is a group of active producing members that meet once every other month to showcase what they have been working on. It is a formal critique with other artists that helps you get an extra pair of eyes on your work, as well as holding yourself accountable for reaching personal goals in your production timeline.

Communication and Active Participation with QAS

A lot of the time when we have successful grant recipients, these are new-comers to the scene. Consistently reaching out to Quickdraw, coming in for clubs, Free Swim, and participating in events allows you to be able to connect with fellow artists and be a part of our community. We have a great community of people, and with participation and active communication we can be creative in ways to support you in successfully delivering on your grant.
