About Hartley Fiala

Hartley made a film for our Animation Lockdown 2023: Whiplash Edition, and won our "Dailies" Community Award, so we're more than chuffed to have him make a film with us with this opportunity!

From Hartley:

Hartley Fiala is an artist and animator based in Calgary. Adding more colour to the world one step at a time and watching life go by is what he does best.

About the CJM Scholarship Film: 

With this project, I want to create an animation of how one's rejection of help from trauma worsens it, and I want to showcase my realization That accepting help makes your life better.

Visually, I will create this project using a 2D hand-drawn animation style. I hope to use Photoshop in "watercolour makers" and use 32 + 64-bit pixel animation. I want to mix pixel art with my "marker" style to render a hybrid of mediums that I believe to be unique visually
